Where to stay in Göreme: a neighbourhood-by-neighbourhood guide

When choosing where to stay in Göreme, the most practical distinction is amenities: of the 43 Göreme hotels in the catalogue, 27 list a balloon view, 11 a pool, 8 a spa and 4 a hamam. By neighbourhood, the Aydınlı–Orta stretch has the most hotels (17), followed by Gaferli (11) and Aydınlı (6). Göreme is the village that hosts the UNESCO-listed Open-Air Museum and lies around the balloon launch fields.

Neighbourhood names come from the “area” field of the hotel records, not from official boundaries. Because 17 hotels write it as “Aydınlı Orta”, “Aydınlı-Orta” or “Aydınlı - Orta”, we counted them as one group.

The figures rest on the amenity lists on each hotel page; a hotel’s summary text may mention something that is not ticked in the list, so check the hotel page for certainty. Room counts are given for only 14 hotels: 8 have 13 rooms or fewer and 6 have 17–36. The hotels below are examples of the range of amenities, not a ranking.

Aydınlı (6 hotels)

All six are cave hotels, and five list a balloon view (all but Aza). Two have a pool, three a spa and one a hamam. The four hotels with known room counts have 10, 17, 30 and 36 rooms. Of the four Göreme hotels with 30 rooms or more, two (Kelebek and Aza) are in this neighbourhood and the other two are in the Aydınlı–Orta group.

Aydınlı–Orta (17 hotels)

The largest group: 13 cave and 4 small hotels. Ten list a balloon view, five a pool, two a spa and one a hamam; eight list family rooms. The five with pools are Doors of Cappadocia, Göreme Cave Lodge, Göreme Cave Suites, Heybe Hotel & Spa and Soho Cappadocia. Among the eight hotels with room counts, the numbers run from 9 to 33; Logos Cave Cappadocia, the smallest in this group at 9 rooms, and Koza Cave Hotel and Naif Hotel, with 10 rooms each, are here.

• Heybe Hotel & Spa: a 33-room hotel; pool and balloon view.
• Sultan Cave Suites: 30 rooms, family rooms and balloon view.
• Aydınlı Cave Hotel: spa, hamam and family rooms together.
• Göreme Cave Lodge: pool and balloon view.
• Mithra Cave Cappadocia: a cave hotel with a spa.

Gaferli (11 hotels)

Nine cave and two small hotels. Seven list a balloon view, two a pool, two a spa, one a hamam and five family rooms. All 3 hotels with a pet-friendly amenity are here: Serene Premium Stone House, Kayataş Cave Suites and Amber Cave Suites. The summaries mention proximity to the Open-Air Museum for Zemi, walking distance to Göreme centre and the museum for Local Cave House, and a central location for Artemis.

Orta, Isalı–Avcılar and hotels without a neighbourhood

Orta (4 hotels): two cave and two small hotels; three list a balloon view and one has family rooms; none lists a pool, spa or hamam. Hidden Cave Hotel has 13 rooms and family rooms; Göreme Inn is at the entrance to Pigeon Valley according to its summary; Henna Hotel (Adults Only) is adults only; Caftan Cave Suites has a balloon view.

Isalı and Avcılar (3 hotels): three hotels recorded as “Isalı”, “Avcılar” and “Isalı-Gaferli-Avcılar”. Two have a pool, one a spa and one a hamam. Carus Cappadocia combines a pool, a spa and a balloon view; Secret Hill Cave Suites has a pool and a hamam; Grand Cave Suites is a cave hotel.
