33 of the 80 hotels in our catalogue list family rooms: 17 in Göreme, 8 in Uçhisar, 3 in Ürgüp, 3 in Çavuşin, 1 in Mustafapaşa and 1 in Ortahisar. The tick is all the records give. None says how many beds a family room has, how many guests it takes, how large it is, or whether a cot or a connecting room is available. So this guide does something different from the usual list: it sets the 33 against the other ticks that matter to a family, shows which hotels are small enough to ask about, separates “family-run” from “family rooms” and ends with the questions to put to the hotel. What the ticks show
Of the 33, 31 tick breakfast included (Divan Cave House and Tulip Cave Suites do not, though Divan’s record describes an open buffet from 8:00 to 10:30), 26 tick parking, 22 tick air conditioning and 21 a balloon view. Nine tick all four of breakfast, parking, air conditioning and a balloon view: Chelebi Cave House, Design Cave Hotel, Harman Cave Hotel, Kelebek Cave Hotel, Local Cave House, Roma Cave Suite Hotel and Serene Premium Stone House in Göreme, and Atax Cave House and Azure Cave Suites in Çavuşin.
Gaps are worth reading. Seven family-room hotels do not tick parking: Bedrock, Hidden Cave Hotel, Kilim Pansiyon, Tulip Cave Suites, Vigor, Wings and Zara Cave Hotel +10. Eleven do not tick air conditioning, which matters from June to August, when the average high is 24.9–28.7 °C. Only 9 list an airport transfer, and only two, Kelebek and Local Cave House, tick a pool. Five tick pet-friendly: Amber, Kale Konak, Kilim Pansiyon, Seki and Serene Premium Stone House.
Small hotels and few rooms
Room counts are given for 13 of the 33. Eight have 14 rooms or fewer: Kayata Cave Suites (9), Aja Cappadocia Hotel and Cave Art Cappadocia (10 each), Divan Cave House and Local Cave House (12 each), Hidden Cave Hotel and Roma Cave Suite Hotel (13 each) and Flavia Cappadocia Hotel (14). The rest have 16 to 36: Seki, Kale Konak, Zara, Sultan and Kelebek. The records do not say how many of a hotel’s rooms are family rooms, and in a nine-room hotel that could be one. Ask how many exist and book early for school holidays.
Family-run is not family rooms
Eight records say the hotel is family-run. Four also list family rooms: Aydınlı Cave Hotel, Chelebi Cave House, Hidden Cave Hotel and Tulip Cave Suites. Four do not: Eka Cave Maison, Koza Cave Hotel, Naif Hotel and Tekkaya Cave Hotel. Two records speak to families in text without the tick: Ürgüp Evi calls itself family-friendly with 12 rooms, and Zemi Hotel Cappadocia says its outdoor pool is for adults and children. All six may suit a family, but the tick is the only thing that says a room is set up for one, so ask what the room holds. Nine of the 33 also tick a honeymoon concept, which shows that “family” and “couple” labels overlap.
