Hotels with parking in Cappadocia: driving to a cave hotel

60 of the 80 hotels in our catalogue tick parking. All 18 hotels in Ürgüp, Mustafapaşa, Çavuşin and Ortahisar do; the 20 that do not are in Göreme (13) and Uçhisar (7). That is nearly all the catalogue knows, because the tick says only that a hotel lists parking. No record says how many cars fit, whether the space is at the hotel or down the road, whether it is covered, or what the last stretch of lane looks like, and only four say it is free. This guide sets the 60 out by town, names the 20, and gives the questions to put to a hotel if you arrive by hire car. Göreme and Uçhisar hold 62 of the 80 hotels and all 20 gaps. By category, 42 of the 54 cave hotels tick parking (78%) and 15 of the 22 small hotels (68%); both suite hotels and the one luxury-category hotel tick it, and the one pension does not.

Every one of these 20 records carries the same line: parking is not listed, and guests should ask the hotel about nearby options before arriving by car. None says more, so silence here is not a no. What the ticks do show is that 8 of the 20 list an airport transfer, 5 a 24-hour reception, 11 a balloon view and 7 family rooms. The last two rows matter: both records describe a stay where a vehicle helps, and neither ticks parking. Distances are as the records give them.

What the text says about the approach

No record describes street width, gradients or where a car has to stop. Old village lanes in Göreme, Uçhisar and the Ürgüp district can be narrow, and one record calls its hotel hilltop, so a large car or a van may not reach the door even where parking is ticked. Eight records add that parking is for guests “arriving by car” (Atax, Breeze, Chakra, Design, Karlık Cave Suite, Tekkaya, Travellers and Göreme Inn), which is the same tick in different words. Two say on site: Design Cave Hotel and Roma Cave Suite Hotel.

Questions to ask

• Is the parking at the hotel, on the street or in a lot, and is it free?
• How large a car does the lane take, and how do I reach the entrance?
• How many spaces are there, and can I reserve one?
• If the lane is too narrow, can the hotel meet me and carry the bags?
• Where is the car left overnight, and is it attended or locked?
