July is the sunniest month of the Cappadocian year and one of the two driest: 11.9 hours of sun a day, 2.3 rainy days and 9.4 mm of precipitation, with an average high of 28.5 °C and the highest temperature ever recorded in the Nevşehir file, 39.5 °C. Balloons flew on 23 of 31 days in July 2025 (74%) and 25 of 31 in July 2026 (81%). That is a good share, though not the highest in the record: June reached 83% in both years and August 2025 84%. This guide sets the weather, the flight record and the catalogue’s air-conditioning counts side by side. It has no prices or opening hours.

The weather in July

Measure June July August
Average temperature 18.3 °C 21.4 °C 21.3 °C
Average high / low 24.9 / 11.7 °C 28.5 / 13.7 °C 28.7 / 13.6 °C

Precipitation 37.5 mm 9.4 mm 8.4 mm
Record high / low 35.0 / 1.3 °C 39.5 / 3.8 °C 38.2 / 3.1 °C

MGM averages for 1959–2025, Nevşehir, so Göreme or Uçhisar can differ locally. An average high of 28.5 °C is warm rather than extreme, but the record shows what a hot spell can reach. The 14.8 °C gap between day and night makes the dawn pleasantly cool, with an average low of 13.7 °C, and the afternoons the part to plan around.

Balloons in July 2025 and 2026

Year Flown Cancelled Share Days without flights
July 2025 23 8 74% 4, 16, 24–26, 29–31
July 2026 25 6 81% 6, 10, 17, 25, 29–30

The two Julys differ in rhythm. In 2025 balloons flew on 14 of the first 15 days, including 11 days in a row from 5 to 15 July, and on only 9 of the last 16: the two gaps of 3 days, 24 to 26 and 29 to 31 July, are the longest in the whole summer record. In 2026 the gaps were short, 2 days at most, and the longest run of flying days was 7, from 18 to 24 July. July is a good month, not an automatic one: the same month in the same year can start generously and end thinly.

Counting only windows of consecutive mornings that sit wholly inside July, in both years:

Mornings 2 3 4 5
Windows with at least one flight 92% 97% 100% 100%

Three nights is a comfortable plan, and the first morning is the one to book. Two Julys cannot promise a third, and the decision is made on the day, on wind and visibility. Flights leave at sunrise, which comes early in July, so the pick-up is early too; ask the operator for the time. The month-by-month table is in balloon flight days.

Heat and cooling: what the catalogue says

A thick mass of rock keeps carved rooms cooler than the outdoors on hot afternoons (see what is a cave hotel), but the catalogue holds no room temperatures. What it records is the air-conditioning tick:

Town Hotels Air conditioning ticked Not ticked
Göreme 43 35 8
Uçhisar 19 7 12
Ürgüp 9 3 6
Çavuşin 3 2 1
Ortahisar 2 1 1
Mustafapaşa 4 0 4
Total 80 48 32

Of the 54 cave hotels, 35 tick it. The 13 outside Göreme are, in Uçhisar, Chiaro Cappadocia, Flavia Cappadocia Hotel, Hu of Cappadocia - Special Class, Karlık Cave Suite, Karlık Evi Cappadocia, The Kingdom of Cappadocia - Luxury Hotel and Vigor Cappadocia (ex Elite Cave); in Ürgüp, Aja Cappadocia Hotel, Chakra Special Caves and Eka Cave Maison; in Çavuşin, Atax Cave House and Azure Cave Suites; and in Ortahisar, Fosil Cave Hotel. A missing tick does not mean there is no cooling: ask whether the room has air conditioning, a fan, or neither, and which way it faces.

The July day: early, then slow

The rhythm that works is the one the climate suggests. Rise early for the balloon or the valley walk, when the average low is 13.7 °C; spend the middle of the day indoors, in shade or by a pool; and go out again in the late afternoon. The sun averages 11.9 hours a day, so sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and a bottle of water belong with you from the first morning, and the hiking overview covers heat and water on valley paths. With almost no rain the paths are dry and dusty. On pools, 15 records mention one and 7 describe it as seasonal; ask whether it is open on your dates.

Photographers should expect the light of a sunny month: long, hard midday light and good conditions at both ends of the day, so early and late are the hours to shoot; the same rhythm suits your legs, too.

July or August?

The two months are close. August has a similar average high (28.7 °C against 28.5 °C), a little less sun (11.3 hours against 11.9) and even less rain (1.7 days against 2.3), while July holds the highest reading on record (39.5 °C against 38.2 °C). For balloons, August 2025 flew on 26 of 31 days (84%) against 23 (74%) for July 2025, but we have only one full August, so do not read a difference into it. Choose between them on your holiday dates and on availability, not on the weather; our data cannot split them.

Where to stay in July

Göreme Inn, pictured above, has operated for more than 15 years at the mouth of Pigeon Valley in Göreme; it ticks air conditioning, room service, parking and an airport transfer, and lists valley and balloon views. Azure Cave Suites in Çavuşin lists air conditioning, balloon views from the rooms and terrace, and a wake-up service. The Kingdom of Cappadocia - Luxury Hotel in Uçhisar lists air conditioning, a pool, a spa and a hamam. For the full list, see the hotel list.
