The climate columns are 1959–2025 averages from the Nevşehir station. The balloon column adds up 2025 and 2026 for January to July and uses 2025 alone for August to December (the two days of August 2026 are left out). The measurements come from Nevşehir, so Göreme, Ürgüp or Uçhisar can differ locally.
Winter (December–February)
The average temperature is 2.1 °C in December, −0.1 °C in January and 0.9 °C in February. The average high is 4.0–6.2 °C and the average low runs from −3.6 to −1.3 °C. There are 3.1–4.2 hours of sunshine a day and about 12 rainy days a month. The lowest recorded temperature is −23.6 °C, in February.
We have no snow probability, only the deepest recorded snow cover: 64 cm on 2 February 1992. The average low is below zero in all three months, which suggests some of the precipitation can fall as snow, but it does not tell you on which days.
Balloons: flights took place on 51 of the 149 December–February days in the record (34%), and the 18-day streak from 5 to 22 February 2025 is the longest cancellation streak in the record. If you want a balloon flight in this season, follow the winter table in the balloon flight days article and plan at least 3 nights, ideally 4–5.
Who it suits: those happy to take short walks wrapped up warm and to accept the chance of snow photography. Of the 4 hotels with heated floors in their amenity list, three are in the Ürgüp district: The Calypso Cave, Nujel’m Cappadocia and Vita Cave Suites; the fourth is Zara Cave Hotel +10 in Göreme.
Spring (March–May)
The average high is 10.3 °C in March, 16.0 °C in April and 20.6 °C in May. Sunshine rises from 5.3 to 8.4 hours a day. Rainy days stay between 12.5 and 13.1 a month in all three, the highest of the year, and rainfall peaks in May (57.9 mm). The lowest May temperature on record is −2.3 °C, so frost has occurred, if rarely.
Balloons: March 52%, April 62%, May 65%; over the three months, 109 of 184 days (59%). The longest cancellation streaks were 6 days (18–23 March 2026 and 1–6 May 2026). The two years differ widely: March was 61% in 2025 and 42% in 2026.
Who it suits: for walkers, April–May daytime highs of 16–20.6 °C, but with so many rainy days you will want a rain jacket. For photographers who want clear skies, sunshine averages 5.3 hours in March and 8.4 in May, so May looks more suitable.
Summer (June–August)
The average high is 24.9 °C in June, 28.5 °C in July and 28.7 °C in August; the average low is 11.7–13.7 °C. Sunshine runs 10.6–11.9 hours a day. Rainy days number 8.1 in June, 2.3 in July and 1.7 in August, with 9.4 and 8.4 mm of rain in July and August. The highest recorded temperature is 39.5 °C, in July. The average gap between day and night is 13.2 °C in June, 14.8 °C in July and 15.1 °C in August, so a thin layer helps in the evenings and mornings.
Balloons: flights took place on 124 of 153 recorded days (81%), and the longest cancellation streak was 3 days. June came out at 83% in both years; July was 74% and 81%.
Who it suits: for balloon flights and sunrise photography, this season has the highest rate in the record. On valley walks, daytime heat rises, so early morning and late afternoon make sense. 48 hotels list air conditioning; see the hotel list.
Autumn (September–November)
The average high is 24.5 °C in September, 18.3 °C in October and 11.8 °C in November. Sunshine falls from 9.4 to 4.6 hours a day while rainy days rise from 3.4 to 8.5. Record lows are −1.2 °C in September, −7.6 °C in October and −14.0 °C in November.
Balloons (2025 record only): September 67%, October 58%, November 53%; over the three months, 54 of 91 days (59%). The longest cancellation streak was 4 days.
Who it suits: September and October are mild for walking; in November the daytime high is 11.8 °C and there are 8.5 rainy days. With 9.4 hours of sunshine and a 67% balloon share, September suits visitors who want open-air days and balloon photos together.

Limits of the data
The climate values are averages over the 1959–2025 measurement period; they do not predict how a given year will turn out. The balloon record covers only 19 months, and the monthly shares rest on one or two years; gaps such as March at 61% and 42%, or May at 74% and 55%, show that. This article rests only on weather and balloon data. For current conditions, see the weather page.
