The easiest way to watch the balloons without flying is from a hotel terrace: 38 of the 80 hotels in our catalogue tick a balloon view, 27 of them in Göreme, 8 in Uçhisar and 3 in Çavuşin. Public choices exist too, among them the roadside viewpoint over Love Valley, Göreme’s sunset viewpoint and Uçhisar Castle. This guide counts the terraces by town, names them, and covers the timing, the cold and what a cancelled morning means. It has no prices, opening hours or sunrise times.

What decides what you see

Balloons fly around sunrise from launch fields that lie around Göreme, and the wind that morning decides which way they drift. A viewpoint that gives a close view one day may give a distant one the next, and none can promise the balloons will pass overhead. Two things are in your control: where you stand, and how many mornings you give it.

Mornings matter because a view depends on flights taking place. The day-by-day record (1 January 2025 – 2 August 2026, the date at which our flight calendar ends) shows balloons flying on 223 of 365 days in 2025 (61%) and on 340 of 579 days overall (59%). By season the gap is wide: 81% of summer days (126 of 155) against 34% of winter days (51 of 149). The full tables are in when balloons fly.

Hotel terraces, counted by town

Town Hotels ‘Balloon view’ ticked Mentioned in highlights only
Göreme 43 27 8
Uçhisar 19 8 5
Çavuşin 3 3 0
Ürgüp 9 0 0
Mustafapaşa 4 0 1
Ortahisar 2 0 0
Total 80 38 14

Just under half of all records tick the view, but the balloon launch fields are around Göreme, which is why the count is so uneven. The 14 in the last column say “balloon views” in their highlights without the tick: Artemis Cave Suites & Spa (Adults Only), Cappadocia Cave Suites, Castle Cave Hotel, Doors of Cappadocia, Grand Cave Suites, Henna Hotel (Adults Only), Mithra Cave Cappadocia and Secret Hill Cave Suites in Göreme; Chiaro Cappadocia, Flavia Cappadocia Hotel, Kale Konak Cappadocia, Karlık Cave Suite and Uçhisar Palace In Cappadocia in Uçhisar; and Cave Art Cappadocia in Mustafapaşa.

The 38 that tick a balloon view

Göreme, Gaferli (7): Amber Cave Suites, Arcus Cappadocia, Bedrock Cave Hotel, Kayataş Cave Suites, Local Cave House, Panoramic Cave Hotel, Serene Premium Stone House.

Göreme, Aydınlı (5): Kelebek Cave Hotel, The Niche Cave Hotel, Taşkonak Cave House, Travellers Cave Hotel, Tulip Cave Suites.

Göreme, Aydınlı-Orta (10): Chelebi Cave House, Divan Cave House, Göreme Cave Lodge, Harman Cave Hotel, Heybe Hotel & Spa, Koza Cave Hotel, Naif Hotel, Roma Cave Suite Hotel, Sultan Cave Suites, Zara Cave Hotel +10.

Göreme, other (5): Caftan Cave Suites, Göreme Inn and Hidden Cave Hotel in Orta; Carus Cappadocia in Avcılar; Design Cave Hotel, with no neighbourhood listed.

Uçhisar (8): Cappadocia Fairy Chimneys Selfie Cave Hotels, Juno Cappadocia, Karlık Evi Cappadocia, Kilim Pansiyon, Simera In Cappadocia, The Kingdom of Cappadocia - Luxury Hotel and Wings Cappadocia in Tekelli, and Vigor Cappadocia (ex Elite Cave) in Aşağı.

Çavuşin (3): Atax Cave House, Azure Cave Suites, Seki Cave Hotel.

A few records say more than the tick:

  • Tulip Cave Suites sits at a higher elevation near the balloon take-off area.
  • Koza Cave Hotel (10 rooms) keeps its rooftop for guests in the mornings; it overlooks the launches above Pigeon Valley.
  • Chelebi Cave House has terraces with views of balloons at sunrise, in two separate buildings each with its own terrace.
  • Karlık Evi Cappadocia (25 rooms) says its rooms overlook the launches at sunrise, and Simera In Cappadocia (9 rooms) has a terrace for watching them each morning.
  • The Niche Cave Hotel has a terrace hot tub for ten people looking towards the sunrise balloons.
  • Azure Cave Suites lists balloon views from rooms and terrace, and Atax Cave House serves breakfast on its terrace.

The amenity lists do not say which way a terrace faces, so ask. Four records (Local Cave House, Mithra Cave Cappadocia, The Niche Cave Hotel and Tulip Cave Suites) say outright that you should arrive the day before, since check-in is from 14:00 at 75 of the 80 hotels.

Public viewpoints and hills

  • The Love Valley roadside viewpoint, between Göreme and Uçhisar, looks over a valley of tall chimneys and needs no walk; see Love Valley.
  • Göreme’s sunset viewpoint, usually called Göreme Sunset Point, is better known for evening light, but a wide view over the town and the valleys can work at dawn too, if the balloons drift that way; see where to watch the sunset.
  • Uçhisar Castle is the highest point in the region and the widest view. Whether you can be on the rock at dawn depends on the opening arrangements, which this guide does not state; see the castle guide.
  • Çavuşin. All three hotels there tick a balloon view, so balloons are visible from the northern end of the area on at least some mornings.

Launch fields are working sites. Do not walk onto them, and keep behind any line the crew has set.

Timing, cold and etiquette

Be in place before first light, since the inflation, with fans and burner flames, is part of the show. Sunrise shifts with the season, so ask your hotel for the time on your dates. Dawn is the coldest hour of the day:

Month Average minimum, Nevşehir
January −3.6 °C
April 5.1 °C
July 13.7 °C
October 6.8 °C

Source: Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM), Nevşehir, 1959–2025. Wear layers, and gloves in winter. On a shared terrace keep your voice down, do not lean over a railing and do not block the view with a tripod. For picture-taking see the photography guide.

If the morning is cancelled

A cancelled morning means no balloons for anyone, whichever terrace you are on. The longest cancellation streak in the record is 18 days (5 to 22 February 2025), and in summer it is 3. So give the view at least two mornings in summer and more in winter, and use a free morning for a walk. If you want to fly, not only watch, read the balloon ride guide.

Where to stay

Tulip Cave Suites and Koza Cave Hotel are the two records that say most about the morning view. In Uçhisar, Simera In Cappadocia has nine rooms and a terrace for the flights. Grand Cave Suites, pictured at the top, is in Göreme’s Isalı area; its highlights say “hot air balloon views” and the record lists a wake-up service. All balloon-view records are in the Göreme, Uçhisar and Çavuşin sections of the hotel list. After choosing, you can book through gocappadocia.com, the regional booking platform created through the combined efforts of 175 Cappadocia hoteliers, with a best-price guarantee; this guide takes no commission.
